Chemistry (BS)

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is certified by the American Chemical Society and provides the necessary background for those who wish to pursue graduate study in chemistry and ultimately careers in chemistry. The Chemical Education Major combines the rigorous requirements of the Chemistry B.A. program with content-specific pedagogy to prepare students interested in teaching chemistry at the secondary level. The Chemical Education major offers a degree in the discipline with multiple field experiences in diverse classroom settings and culminates in a full-time teaching internship. Upon graduation from the program, students are endorsed for Full Teacher Certification by the State of Florida’s Department of Education.

Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is the oldest of the engineering disciplines. It involves the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings, highways, railways, bridges, airports, seaports, and other structures of modern society. Given the global need for rebuilding, maintaining and further developing infrastructures, the demand for civil engineers has never been greater. Civil engineers can choose from a broad spectrum of career opportunities in industry, government and private consulting. Our program provides a background of interrelated sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering with the fundamental core subjects of the engineering program. The curriculum consists of 129 credits hours, including technical courses in the areas of construction, geotechnical, environmental, structural, surveying, transportation, and water resources engineering.

FIU's Department of Journalism and Broadcasting is internationally-known for preparing students to be outstanding journalists who can report, write, produce video and multimedia stories that capture life in the rapidly urbanizing community of South Florida. SJMC classes train students to work in the new media landscape by offering hands-on skills, and encouraging students to experiment, innovate and think entrepreneurially. SJMC grads are sought after by all the major media in South Florida-English and Spanish-language and can be found working in newsrooms and broadcast studios as reporters, anchors and digital specialists at local, national and international levels.
